Chanley Painter is an American journalist, attorney, and television news anchor. She is known for her work as a legal correspondent for Court TV and later as an overnight anchor and correspondent for Fox News Channel. Painter has covered numerous high-profile criminal trials and legal proceedings in the United States, including the trials involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, Derek Chauvin, Alex Murdaugh, and Bryan Kohberger.

Early life and education

Painter was born in Arkansas and raised in Conway. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in political science. She later earned a Master of Public Service degree from the Clinton School of Public Service and a Juris Doctor degree with high honors from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law. While attending law school, she served on the Law Review Editorial Board.

Painter passed the bar examinations in both Arkansas and Tennessee and became licensed to practice law in both states. Before entering journalism full time, she worked as a deputy prosecutor and maintained a private legal practice.

Before transitioning into media, Painter worked in legal practice and public service roles in Arkansas. She also conducted research for organizations related to access to justice and public policy initiatives.

Journalism

Painter began her journalism career in 2016 as a legal analyst for Nexstar Media Group in Little Rock, Arkansas. She later became a multimedia journalist and reporter for KARK-TV and FOX16 News.

In 2019, she joined Court TV as a legal correspondent during the relaunch of the network. At Court TV, Painter gained national recognition for her courtroom reporting and legal analysis. She covered several widely publicized cases, including:

  • Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard
  • The Derek Chauvin trial related to the death of George Floyd
  • The Alex Murdaugh murder trial
  • Harvey Weinstein criminal proceedings

Painter competed in beauty pageants and won the title of Miss Arkansas USA in 2009. She later placed in the Top 10 at the Miss USA 2009 competition.
