Laura Barrón-López (born February 8, 1995) is a Mexican-born American political journalist. She is a White House correspondent for PBS NewsHour and a political analyst for CNN. She has previously worked as a national political and White House reporter for Politico.

Early life and education

Barrón-López was born in Mexico and later moved to the United States. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from California State University, Fullerton.

Career

Barrón-López began her journalism career covering energy and environmental policy for The Hill. She later reported on Congress and national politics for several publications, including HuffPost and the Washington Examiner, where she led coverage of the Democratic Party during the 2018 election cycle.

She joined Politico, where she covered the 2020 United States presidential election as a national political reporter, focusing on voter demographics and policy shifts within the Democratic Party. She later served as a White House reporter, covering the administration of President Joe Biden and reporting on issues such as immigration, voting rights, gun policy, and infrastructure.

Barrón-López subsequently joined PBS NewsHour as a White House correspondent. In this role, she has reported on domestic and international political developments, including U.S. elections, public policy debates, and issues related to democracy and extremism. She has also questioned senior government officials, including the U.S. president, during press briefings.

In addition to her reporting work, she serves as a political analyst for CNN, where she provides commentary and analysis on current political events.

Other activities

In 2024, Barrón-López was named a fellow at the Institute of Politics and Public Service at Georgetown University, where she led discussions on political issues including threats to democracy.
