Tom Satterly enlisted in the United States Army in the mid-1980s. Over the course of a 25-year military career, he spent approximately 20 years as a member of Delta Force, one of the U.S. military’s most secretive and elite special operations units. During his service, Satterly was involved in numerous critical operations, including the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993, a prolonged firefight in Somalia that was later depicted in the film Black Hawk Down.
