Emily Compagno was born on November 9, 1979, in Oakland, California, U.S. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Washington, where she was active in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps and received the “Cadet of the Quarter” Award. She later received her Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law.

After law school, Compagno practiced law in California, working as a criminal defense attorney in San Francisco.
