Biography
Chris Livesay is a foreign correspondent for CBS News stationed in Rome, Italy. He joined CBS News in 2020 and began reporting for the network during the COVID-19 pandemic, notably providing coverage from within Italy at the height of the outbreak. Before joining CBS, Livesay reported for NBC News, PBS NewsHour, PBS Frontline, and NPR, covering stories of global significance including the targeted killing of Iranian General Qassim Soleimani, protests in Hong Kong, and major developments at the Vatican.
Career
Livesay’s journalism career includes reporting from challenging and high-risk environments. In 2018, he was the first American television correspondent to report from Libya in nearly a year, covering migrant trafficking and humanitarian issues while facing government threats that ultimately forced him to leave the country. In 2016, he was among the first journalists on the ground in Mosul, Iraq, reporting from the front lines of the offensive against ISIS. Education
Livesay earned a bachelor’s degree in Italian and art history from Arizona State University. He later completed a master’s degree with highest honors from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in New York City.

He began his journalism career volunteering at the NPR-affiliated radio station KJZZ in Phoenix, Arizona, and later contributed reporting to national NPR programs including All Things Considered and Morning Edition.
